NCDOT Oversize Overweight Permits
PIMS is here!
The NCDOT Permits Information Management System (NC PIMS) replaces the prior program, the NCDOT Advanced Routing and Permitting System (NCARPS).
- At 4:00 PM on Friday, 10 June 2022, the ARPS application was permanently turned off.
- At 7:00 AM on Monday, 13 June 2022, the PIMS application was turned on, and is now the method for submitting oversize overweight permit applications online.
The process of applying for NCDOT Oversize/Overweight permits remains mostly the same:
- Online applications may be submitted using the PIMS application.
Note: You must have a PIMS logon account to submit applications online (see below).
- Completed permit application forms may be faxed to 919.662.4320.
- The NCDOT Permit Unit phone number (888.574.6683) and business hours are the same. Phone lines are active between 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday excepting NC state government holidays.
- Processing times will not change.
Apply Online
To apply for permits online, you MUST have a PIMS logon account. The user ID and password for ARPS do not work. To apply for a PIMS logon account:
Download this form, which is a typable PDF -- we recommend filling the form out on the computer. If the email address(es) are not legible, NCDOT cannot fulfill account requests.
Enter all company information in the top section of the form. This includes:
- Company name
- Company mailing address
- Company email address -- all accounts must have a valid email address
- Phone number
- PIMS customer #. Escrow account holders and permit agents were sent a postal letter which contains their PIMS customer #. All permits issued from PIMS contain the purchaser's customer #. If you don't have one, call the permit unit at 888.574.6683 to get one.
For each logon account, enter the following information:
- User's first and last name. Middle initial is optional.
- User's email address. Please note that each email address may be associated with one (1) company, so if a person submits permit applications for more than one company, they must have a separate logon account for each company, and that requires a separate email address for each company.
The completed form may be emailed to PIMSaccounting@ncdot.gov, or printed and faxed to 919.662.4320.
Applications are processed on a first come, first served basis.
